Inter House Extempore Speech Competition – 7th June 2012
Inter House Extempore Speech Competition was conducted among the eight Houses on 7th June to enhance their speaking skills and develop confidence in public speaking. It also aimed to check their reading habit as ‘Good readers are Good speakers’. Kinley Wangmo, class 8A of Gyeltshen House was declared the winner followed by Thinley Lhendrup, class - 8A of Dungkar House and Pema Yangchen, class 8C of Pema House. Prizes and certificates were awarded to the winners.
Social Forestry Day - 2nd June 2012
The main objectives of organizing the games and sports are to keep the body fit, healthy and free from diseases. Physical fitness is of the utmost importance for everyone, young and old. Participation in games and sports invariably ensures good health and fitness. Regular participation in games and sports provides healthy channels for diversion of energies. Wherever students and youth participate in sports regularly, misdirection of youthful vigor is much less and the tendency to indulge in indiscipline and mischief is curbed. Young people have surplus energy, and if this is fruitfully utilized, the foundations are laid for a healthy society, where people are fully aware of the need for discipline, cooperative effort, team spirit, the cult of sportsmanship, of joint devotion to the achievement of a common goal in collaboration with others. They also learn to cultivate the vital quality of learning how to work together; to become not only good winners, but also good losers. It was a month long inter-house games and sports tournament.
World No Tobacco Day -31st May observed
On 31st of May the members of the Drop In Center (DIC) of Mongar Dzongkhag organized a program to commemorate “World No Tobacco Day” at Mongar Lower Secondary School. The selected students from Mongar HSS, Sherub Reldri HSS, Mongar LSS, Principal of MLSS and some teachers of respective schools attended the program. The program was basically about creating awareness on the ill effects of tobacco use. Dasho Dzongda of Mongar Dzongkhag graced the occasion. The participants articulated it as educative and enlightening.
Best Student of the Month of May - 29th May 2012
The best student of the class was selected from the respective classes by the class teachers and the classmates through voting. There were 15 nominees to compete in the selection of the “Best Student of the Month”. They did a brief introduction followed by a campaign.Teachers, School Captains and House captains casted their votes for the best students based on their ability to campaign and convince. Dungkar House Captain, Master Thinley Dhendup of class VIIA was elected the “best of the best” for the month of May. He won with 10 votes out of 54 votes. He was excited and he assured that his actions, to the best of his ability would be always for the good of the school. Congratulations!!!
The 3rd Students’ Conference - 22nd May
The 3rd Students' conference of the year 2012 was organized by members of Dungkar House. All the students of classes VII & VIII and some teachers participated in the conference. The pressing issues and concerns were raised by the students and resolutions were made with the suggestions from the students themselves and some from the teachers. The issues raised were as follows and the resolutions were made accordingly: Outsiders playing basketball game in the school basketball pitch was one of the issues and it was resolved that henceforth the school will ensure that only the students will be given opportunity to play basketball till 05:30 pm. Students were informed that new pitch is getting ready shortly in the public ground and till its completion we need to bear with it. The 2nd issue was School Toilet not being used properly by the students. Mr. Cheku Wangdue, Assistant Principal asked the students of classes 7 & 8 to volunteer for mass cleaning on coming Saturday and thereafter it will be taken care of in better & appropriate manner. The 3rd issue was in regard to the dress code of girl students.It was resolved with consistent monitoring by the teachers and the Student on Duty (SoDs). The participants expressed it as a fruitful discussion.
Inter-House Dzongkha Debate - 18th May 2012The Literary Committee of the school conducted Inter-House Dzongkha debate competition among the eight Houses. The motion was “Our old Customs and Traditions should be preserved to achieve GNH.” The four Houses – Gyeltshen, Dungkar, Drami and Sernyna spoke for the motion and the other four Houses – Bumpa, Dhug, Pema and Khorlo spoke against the motion. Each team consisted of four participants, one from each House. The participants came up with excellent points in favour as well as against the motion. The team (4 Houses - Bumpa, Dhug, Pema and Khorlo) against the motion was declared the winner. Ms Karma Lhazin, 8C of Dhug House was declared the best debater followed by Ms Yeshey Choden, 7C of Bumpa House and then by Ms Kuenzang Wangmo, 8C of Sernyna House.
School Based In-service Program (SBIP) - 18th May 2012
The SBIP was in line with professional development and make teachers aware of the issues discussed in the meeting with the Secretary of Ministry of Education, Aum Sangay Zam. The presentations were done by the Principal and the Vice Principal. It was basically on ‘School Discipline Policy Guidelines’. The information in regard to the draft BCSR was also conveyed by the Principal. The other SBIP was on ‘Special Education Need (SEN) Policy’ by Ms. Yeshey Choeki. Teachers were made aware of the SEN Policy of the school. Ms Choden presented on ‘Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder’ (ADHD). It was mainly about how to identify ADHD children and how to deal with them in the most appropriate manner in order to help them.Ms Choden also presented on Inclusive Classroom in catering to the needs of all the children with different abilities. It ended with the presentation on ‘Annual Status of Students Learning’ (ASSL) School Performance Report conducted by Royal Education Council (REC) for classes IV, VI & VIII in 2011 by Ms Mani Bomzan. It was informed that the recommendations received are to be incorporated in the pedagogy and content, creating timeline with the plan in which the greatest needs are addressed first. Everyone expressed the SBIP as informative, educative and beneficial.
Open Quiz Competition - 14th May 2012
The Literary Club instituted a system of “Self Improvement learning” with giving of questions to the students out on the board which was open competition for students of classes 4 to 8 comprising of four categories. The categories were 1. ‘Health and Sports’, 2. ‘Dzongkha’, 3. ‘General Knowledge’ and 4. ‘Current Affairs’. It constituted of sets of questions from each category. They were required to answer all the questions from all the sets correctly to win. Master Sacha Dorji of class 8B was declared winner in Health and Sports , Ms Chimi Lhaden of class 8A in Dzongkha Category, Ms Sonam Yangzom of Class 8C in General Knowledge and Ms Cheki Wangmo of class 8A in Current Affairs. The Principal awarded prizes to the winners. Congratulations to all the winners.
