Brief History

The place where the Mongar Lower Secondary School presently located was called Maantshang. In 1966, Thrimpon Karma, built the three storied building which served as a classroom from 1989 to 2003 as Mongar Primary School. There were classes from PP to IV. The first Headmaster was Mr. Lhundup Drukpa. The school gave its first PSLC exam in 1991. In 1998, the school was upgraded to a Junior High School and the school gave its first LSSCE (Class VIII) in 1999 with 95% pass result. The school moved to its new site on 27th March 2003.It has classes from PP to VIII with a total strength of almost 40 students in sections.


To enhance academic and develop human excellence by promoting lifelong learning skills through GNH values with inclusive and wholesome education.


The school shall strive to educate all childern by building character, enriching knowledge, and providing oportunities for success through inclusive education which includes GNH values, psychomotor development and affective growth.

Brief History of Principals

Mr Lhundup Dorji

Completed Teacher Training Certificate from Teacher Training Centre, Paro in June 1978, and placed in TTC/Demonstration School in, Paro. In 1986 he was transferred to Mongar High School and look after the Primary Section as a head. In 1989 he was promoted as Headmaster in Mongar Primary School and served till 1991.

Mrs Yeshey Choeki

Completed Primary Teacher Training Certificate from National Institute of Education, Samtse in June 1988 and was placed in the Primary Section in Mongar High School. Promoted as the Head teacher of Mongar Primary school in 1992 and served till 1995.

Mr Jigme Dorji

Completed Primary Teacher Training Certificate from National Institute of Education, Samtse in June 1988 and Placed in Wirringla Primary School. In 1991 transferred to Muhung Community School as the Head teacher and transferred to Mongar Primary school in 1995 and served till 2001.

Mrs Pelden Zangmo

Worked in Jigme Sherubling HSS as teacher and was promoted to Principal in Mongar LSS in 2002 and continued till 2009.

Mr. Kinley Dorji

Completed Zhungkha Language Training Certificate from NIE, Samtse in March, 1988, and was placed in Lamidangra Jr. High School, Tsirang as teacher. In 1994 sent to Lingmethang Community Primary School as Head Teacher. Then transferred to Ridaza Primary school in 1996 and in 1999 to Goenshari CPS in Punakha. In 2005 was transferred to Lhuentse Dzongkhag as ADEO and joined the present school in 2011 as Principal.
